What is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck procedure involves surgical excision and removal of excess skin and fatty tissue from the abdomen. The scar for a tummy tuck span transversely from hip to hip and is kept low to allow it to be easily concealed within a bikini or underwear line. Often during pregnancy, the rectus abdominis muscles are stretched and separated from each other at midline creating laxity in the abdominal wall, this is called rectus diastasis. During a tummy tuck procedure, a rectus plication is performed in which these muscles are returned to their normal anatomic position and the rectus diastasis is directly repaired. In addition to the low transverse abdominal scar you can expect to have a new scar around the belly button as well.
